ALL INDIA SEMINAR ON
PROSPECTS OF POWER GENERATION
Guwahati, January 3, 2006
The Institute of Engineers (India), Assam State Centre is organizing an All India
Seminar on "Prospects of Power Generation by Utilization of Available Energy
Resources of Assam" on January 5 6, 2006 in collaboration with the Assam Power
Generation Corporation Ltd. (ASEB). The Inaugural function will be held on January 5,
2006 at 9.30 A.M. which is expected to be attended by the Chief Minister and Power
Minister of Assam. The Chairman, ASEB will also attend the function.
The Seminar has been organized to provide a platform to the power utilities of the
state and central sector, private power producers, coal and oil sector PSUs, experts and
engineers from different disciplines, equipment manufacturers, academicians etc. to
deliberate on the theme and to pave the way for setting up techno-commercially viable
power plant in the state to mitigate the power crisis. One of the thrust areas of the
deliberations will be to utilize the coal reserves of Assam for power generation, which
have so far been unutilized because of high sulphur content. While strategies for
utilization of more natural gas for power generation will figure in the deliberations, the
problems of low gas pressure being faced by the existing gas turbines of Assam are also
expected to be discussed by the experts.
The seminar is expected to be participated by the experts from the Power sector
utilities of the State, Centre and private sectors, ONGC, OIL, GAIL, CIL etc.
